It is expected that students will solve assignments themselves. Following rules will apply during the evaluation of the assignment. Marks will be awarded on the basis of answer and plagiarism report. Question 1 Marks 15 The standard deviation of the amounts poured into bottles by an automatic filing machine is 1.5 ml. The amount of fill in a random sample of bottles in ml are 431,459,472,477,470,489,481,475 and 482. Suppose the population of amounts of fill is normal. Construct an 80% confidence interval for the mean amount of bottles filled by the machine. Question 2 Marks 20 Consider the following data: 78, 84, 91, 106, 69, 115, 118, 90, 104, 86, 95, 97, 72, 83, 87, 109, 88, 79 71, 104, 83, 116, 97, 88, 107, 74, 72, 98, 113, 71, 80, 102, 77, 121, 111, 95 Calculate the mean, median, mode and standard deviation of the above data and also tell the shape of the distribution. Question 3 Marks 15 We have sample mean 90 with a sample size of 20. Can this sample be regarded as drawn from a normal population with mean μ = 83, σ=4 and α = 0.05? Fall 2019 2
